Afternoon Game Drive

1 Day

Bongwe Game Drive

Includes: Game drive, Rhino encounter, Sun-downer drinks (beer, wine and soft drinks)

This leisurely version of ourĀ Livingstone safari game drive offers a much more authentic experience and allows your professional guide to paint a comprehensive and detailed picture of all of the animals, birds and trees and habitat.

This slow relaxed game drive offers guests the opportunity to track down and spend more time watching each of the animals as they meander through their day. A National parks supervised trip to the Rhino form part of this excellent Livingstone safari game drive. We will also stop off at one of our favourite spots along the river and watch the sunset as we sip a drink of your choice. What a relaxed way to spend the afternoon!

Bongwe Rhino Encounter

At Bongwe we do not subscribe to the “tick all the boxes” speed-safari like some of our competitors do. The bush and its wildlife are not there to cater to our needs and, sometimes, they just do not want to be found. Fair enough. It is therefore a pointless exercise in trying to find everything in a few short hours. Instead, we like to take our time, spend more hours in the bush and enjoy the sightings we do come across. Invariably, we end up seeing more and spending more time taking in the experience by doing it this way.

A Bongwe Safari is not just a safari, it is an experience to remember.

What should I bring?

We recommend bringing a camera, some binoculars and a good hat to keep the sun off your head. Also some high factor sun cream.

What should I wear

Whilst there isn’t really any strict rules with regards to attire, you should avoid wearing anything too bright. Whilst you don’t have to wear khaki colours, anything neutral in colour will be fine. Shorts and t-shirts are fine as are skirts and dresses. In the winter months we highly recommend a good jumper (jersey/sweatshirt) to keep the early morning/evening chills at bay.

Should i bring any snacks/drinks.

No, you do not need to bring anything. We provide lots of water for the game drive and also provide a bush breakfast, including tea and coffee. It is a simple breakfast like a bacon and/or egg roll cooked on a braai and served overlooking the Zambezi River.

Do I need medical insurance?

Yes. All clients should have sufficient medical insurance to cover themselves in the unlikely event that they need to be emergency evacuated. They should also have cover for general outpatient and inpatient treatments in hospital. Most medical insurance covers this. If you paid for your holiday on credit card, your card provider may provide medical cover by default.

What are we likely to see?

Nothing is guaranteed in the African bush, but what we see most of the year round are elephants, bufallo, giraffe, hippo, crocodile, zebra, warthog, various antelope, fish eagle and a plethora of bird life. We also, of course, have one of the few remaining wild White Rhino herds in the region. A must see!

Is it dangerous?

It would be remiss of us to say it is perfectly safe. However, there is very little risk of injury during a Bongwe Safari. Our vehicles are designed specifically for safari game drives and are safe. Our guides are professional and have been doing it for many years so they know what to approach and when. In over ten years of operation we have had zero incidents and our head guide, Alec, has had no accidents or close shaves in nearly 30 years of guiding throughout Zambia.
